Clutching their Golden Tickets, they arrive at Wonka's chocolate factory。 But what mysterious secrets will they discover?
Our tour is about to begin。 Please don't wander off。 Mr Wonka wouldn't like to lose any of you at this stage of the proceedings 。 。 。

Re-read with my 5-year-old。 Did not remember how terrible everyone in the book was or how rude the narration about them could get, but my kid loved it, so there's that。 Re-read with my 5-year-old。 Did not remember how terrible everyone in the book was or how rude the narration about them could get, but my kid loved it, so there's that。 。。。more

Do you believe in getting a sugar rush just from reading a book?🍭Had someone asked me a question as dumb as this, I would have rolled my eyes, but after reading Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, I was led to believe the aforementioned weird theory。 This book is everything that is ENRICHED WITH THE GOODNESS OF CHOCOLATES 🤩, reading it is a rapture, a thoroughgoing delight, and also an absolute curse 'cause there's no way one can get (let alone taste) the myriads of chocolates that are boastfully Do you believe in getting a sugar rush just from reading a book?🍭Had someone asked me a question as dumb as this, I would have rolled my eyes, but after reading Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, I was led to believe the aforementioned weird theory。 This book is everything that is ENRICHED WITH THE GOODNESS OF CHOCOLATES 🤩, reading it is a rapture, a thoroughgoing delight, and also an absolute curse 'cause there's no way one can get (let alone taste) the myriads of chocolates that are boastfully mentioned here。 Besides the title's downright obviousness that the book has something to do with "chocolates and their making", I'm going to hold back everything else about it 'cause one has to dive right in sans any spoiler WHATSOEVER and relish every ounce of its sheer awesomeness just as it comes。 The good news is, it doesn't stop here, Roald Dahl being his generous self has also written a sequel to it - Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator, which I'm very much looking forward to reading。 (awesomeness squared)🍭Roald Dahl can make even the most boring mundane trivial things seem exciting with a great deal of hyperboles thrown into his very over-the-top plots🍭This book, like all of his other books, is not short of his idiosyncrasies and it makes for a fantabulous reading。 I love his writing, and much as I want to complain about how mean it gets sometimes, for some unknown reason, I can't bring myself to do that。 I mean that's what a good book does to you, it lets you overlook the shortcomings and leaves you AMAZED🍭To conclude I have to tell you, this book has such an effect on me, that I had to (without a choice) indulge in these candies that I grabbed from a local confectionery store。 。。。more

Still a very enjoyable read but my Children's Lit class has taken some of the shine off this book for me, considering the darker history。 Still a very enjoyable read but my Children's Lit class has taken some of the shine off this book for me, considering the darker history。 。。。more

I like this story, but I saw the movie before I read the book, it is not a so-called blockbuster, but I read it with relish。 Although Charlie and his family lived a poor life, they knew a feeling called love。 To maintain their satisfaction in everything but life。

Reading this as an adult vs reading this as a child was a whole new experience。

Another absolute childhood favourite of mine。 Getting to experience the story again was pure magic。 The audiobook is definitely the way to go。 The voices the narrator used for some of the characters were annoying, but the added sound effects really enhanced the reading experience。

We listened to this on CD in the car and it was very entertaining。

“Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” by Roald Dahl is a children's novel, I just finished reading it with one of my students。 The story revolves around a child named Charlie Bucket and his adventures in the Chocolate factory of Mr。 Willy Wonka along with the other 4 children。。I really enjoyed the character of Mr。 Willy Wonka and how he was so cocky towards the rotten children。 The book provides some learning too through the character of all 5 children。 。Though there was nothing to guess for me ab “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” by Roald Dahl is a children's novel, I just finished reading it with one of my students。 The story revolves around a child named Charlie Bucket and his adventures in the Chocolate factory of Mr。 Willy Wonka along with the other 4 children。。I really enjoyed the character of Mr。 Willy Wonka and how he was so cocky towards the rotten children。 The book provides some learning too through the character of all 5 children。 。Though there was nothing to guess for me about what is going to happen next as I had already watched the movie but still the book was so intriguing and kept me focused just like a television might to Mike Teavee。 ;) 。However, I wished Dahl might have told about the history of Mr。 Willy Wonka and what led him to such inventions。。I would definitely recommend this book for all age group people as it's interesting and teaches the meaning of living。 Many of us can see ourselves in those 5 children, we might have someway along our life behaved like them and the Oompa-Loompas songs can provide us with a good teaching。 。。。more

Your classic rag-to-riches story with the other characters embodying negative traits that are hilarious caricatures。 I read this as a kid and don't remember it being that short and concise。 There is colonialist stereotyping of the oompa loompa's that is culturally insensitive。 Your classic rag-to-riches story with the other characters embodying negative traits that are hilarious caricatures。 I read this as a kid and don't remember it being that short and concise。 There is colonialist stereotyping of the oompa loompa's that is culturally insensitive。 。。。more

。。。more

My kids (daughter, 5 and son, 7) and I listened to this together。 I don't think I ever read or heard the whole thing in its entirety as a child but, of course, new the gist。My son really liked it and asked constantly to listen to more。 My daughter wasn't as into it and even opted to skip the last 25 or so minutes。 I liked it overall。 Definitely fantastical, which made it fun。 My kids (daughter, 5 and son, 7) and I listened to this together。 I don't think I ever read or heard the whole thing in its entirety as a child but, of course, new the gist。My son really liked it and asked constantly to listen to more。 My daughter wasn't as into it and even opted to skip the last 25 or so minutes。 I liked it overall。 Definitely fantastical, which made it fun。 。。。more

Holy fatphobia batman! This was one of my favorite books growing up and I remembered it celebrating the joys of candy and childhood; I couldn't have been more wrong! This is one of my favourite books of all time, and I enjoyed re-reading this, particularly as the edition I read was illustrated by my favourite illustrator, Quentin Blake, who has worked on most (possibly all) of Roald Dahl's books。Whenever I have read this, I am always keen to get to the scenes set within the chocolate factory, which I find most enjoyable, just because this is where Roald Dahl's imagination really comes out, with all of the bizarre inventions that Willy Wonka has created。 It's This is one of my favourite books of all time, and I enjoyed re-reading this, particularly as the edition I read was illustrated by my favourite illustrator, Quentin Blake, who has worked on most (possibly all) of Roald Dahl's books。Whenever I have read this, I am always keen to get to the scenes set within the chocolate factory, which I find most enjoyable, just because this is where Roald Dahl's imagination really comes out, with all of the bizarre inventions that Willy Wonka has created。 It's a place that I'd love to read more about, and that I wish I were able to visit myself。Reading it again as an adult, I remembered quite how dark it is in places; I recall probably asking a few questions about when being read it as a child, probably along the lines of "Is this character okay?", or "Is this character going to die?" The mildly disturbing content comes almost entirely from the speculation over the fates of the children who fall afoul of the chocolate factory (the implication that Verruca Salt is going to end up in a lit furnace, or that Augustus Gloop will be turned into fudge, for example)。 There's also the moment in one of the Oompa Loompa songs (a joy to read, and similar to Roald Dahl's "Revolting Rhymes" book) that I had forgotten about, which has a character biting her tongue in half。I enjoyed reading this again, and it remains as an absolute classic。 。。。more
